The TwinIT campaigns by Europeana and the European Comission have become a flagship initiative for showcasing outstanding digital heritage assets from across Europe, highlighting the richness, diversity, and innovation that define our shared European identity. We are particularly proud that the EUreka3D-XR Project has achieved a truly remarkable distinction: it remains the only EU-funded project whose pilot case studies have been selected twice as representative examples of Cyprus within the Europeana TwinIt! campaigns campaigns.
During the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Lambousa pilot case study was chosen to represent Cyprus, demonstrating the importance of advanced 3D digitisation and digital preservation technologies in safeguarding and promoting our maritime cultural heritage.
Now, during the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026, the Saint Neophytos pilot case study has been selected as Cyprus’ representative contribution, further confirming the scientific excellence, innovation, and impact achieved by the EUreka3D-XR consortium.
This exceptional achievement reflects not only the quality of the two pilot case studies but also the dedication of all partners, researchers, heritage professionals, and institutions involved in advancing the digital transformation of cultural heritage across Europe. To our knowledge, no other project associated with the European Cultural Heritage Data Space, Europeana, or related European initiatives has had two different pilot case studies selected in successive TwinIT! campaigns.
This recognition reaffirms the strategic role of digital technologies, 3D digitisation, XR, Digital Twins and Memory Twins in preserving, understanding, and sharing Europe’s cultural heritage with future generations.
