Cypriot Black-glazed Earthenware Jug
Cypro-Classical II (475-325 BC). Height 2.7cm. Diameter 13cm, diameter of base 10cm
A bowl with a ring base and a shallow body. The lower body is concave, rising to a ridged middle and a convex upper body, finished with a plain rim. Made of hard brick-coloured clay with a lustrous reddish-brown slip. Concentric circles decorate the exterior of the base, and a band encircles the ridge at mid-body.
The bowl was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1929 at Marion, from the floor of Tomb 58. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No.: M. 058:006) since 1931.
