Cypriot Plain White VII Earthenware Jug
Cypro-Classical II (400-325 BC). Height 32.5cm, height of figurine 11.5cm. Diameter 7.9cm, diameter of base 9.3cm
A jug with a hollow, stemmed disc base and an ovoid body. It has a tall, concave neck with a horizontal rim, and a flat handle running from the upper neck to the shoulder. On the front shoulder is a handmade female figurine, with the face made in a mould. She places her right hand on the head of a bull. Made of hard cream-yellow clay with a matte light buff slip.
The jug was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1929 at Marion, from the surface stratum of the Dromos, Tomb 57. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No.: M. 057, Dr. 003) since 1931.
