Cypriot Red Stone Scarab
Cypro-Archiac I–II (700-475 BC). Length 1.5cm
A small scaraboid made of red stone. The base is incised with a Type VII design showing two birds facing each other. Behind the birds are dots with pendant crosses, and above them is a comb-shaped ornament.
The scarab was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1929 at Ayia Irini in the Sanctuary, square Q8, level 95.1. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No. A.I. 2561) since 1930.
