Europeana Blogs About the Lambousa

We are delighted to see the blog on Europeana about our digitisation and preservation effort to save the iconic Cypriot fishing trawler which appeared today in the Europeana Stories section.

Europeana provides cultural heritage enthusiasts, professionals, teachers, and researchers with access to Europe’s digital cultural heritage. Why? To inspire and inform fresh perspectives and open conversations about our history and culture. To share and enjoy our rich cultural heritage. To use it to create new things.

The Lambousa case study was originally digitised by the ERA Chair MNEMOSYNE project at the request of the Municipality of Limassol as part of the vessel’s renovation and relaunch as a floating museum dedicated to Cyprus’ maritime and fishing heritage. The results of the MNEMOSYNE project were reused by the Horizon Europe EUreka3D project allowing the digital model to be harvested into Europeana and ready for dissemination. The Lambousa was selected as one of the two official digital cultural heritage assets for the EU TwinIT! initiative in May this year and has its own dedicated online platform at eLambousa.eu detailing its history, its preservation and future.
