Cypriot Black-glazed Earthenware Kantharos
Cypro-Classical II (475-325 BC). Height 9.5cm. Diameter 9.4cm, diameter of base 6.6cm
A kantharos with a ring base and a deep body. The lower body is biconical, while the middle and upper parts widen upward to a flaring rim. It has ear-shaped handles, each with a knob on the lower part, extending from the rim down to the lower body. Made of hard brick-coloured clay with a lustrous black slip.
The kantharos was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1929 at Marion, from Tomb 58. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No.: M. 058:081) since 1931.
