Cypriot Terracotta Figurine
Cypro-Classical I (475-400 BC). Height 20.2cm, width 5.7cm
A moulded female figurine standing on a relatively high, square base. The figure has a slightly concave posture and wears a tall, oval headdress. The face has clearly marked features. She is dressed in a chiton and a himation. The right arm is bent across the breast, while the left arm hangs along the side, holding the drapery. The back is plain and without detail.
The figurine was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1929 at Marion, from a niche of a chamber in Tomb 39. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No.: M. 039:021) since 1931.
