Cypriot Terracotta Figurine
Cypro-Geometric I (1050-950 BC). Height 12cm, diameter at base 4.6cm.
A female figurine with a disc base and a solid, cylindrical body made on the wheel. It has a projecting breast, a concave neck, and a large head. The face features a small mouth, round projecting eyes, prominent eyebrows formed as high ridges, and a beak-shaped nose. Made of hard pinkish clay with a matte light buff slip.
The figurine was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1929 at Ayios Iakovos in the Iron Age Sanctuary, square D6, level 97.2. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No. A.J. I.A.S. 018) since 1930.
