Cypriot Limestone Sculpture
Cypro-Archaic II – Cypro-Classical II (600-325 BC). Length 13.5cm
A sculpture of a left hand from a life-size statue, shown holding a piece of fruit. The fruit is grasped by the thumb, index, and middle fingers. Each finger bears two rings, except for the thumb and little finger, which have only one. The fingernails are clearly indicated. The piece is made of white limestone.
The sculpture was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1928 at Vouni, in the Palace, Room 122, as part of a deposit of sculptures. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No.: V. 056) since 1931.
