Cypriot Black-on-Red I (III) Earthenware Jug
Cypro-Geometric III (850-700 BC). Height 9.6cm.
A jug with a flaring, funnel-shaped mouth and a narrow neck marked by a ridge. The body is globular and rests on a flat base, with a handle running from the neck to the shoulder. Encircling lines run around the rim, neck, shoulder, and body. The front is decorated with concentric circles, while the handle features vertical lines.
The jug was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1930 at Styili, from the floor of Tomb 11. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No.: St. 017:009) since 1931.
