Cypriot White Painted I Earthenware Bottle

BabylonJS Viewer – DOM usage

Cypro-Geometric I (1050-950 BC). Height 24.8cm

A bottle with a cylindrical body, a flat base, and a short, narrow neck with a flaring rim. Three vertical handles, each with triple ridges, run from the neck to the shoulder. Decorated in black paint. The body is divided into zones by groups of horizontal lines. From top to bottom: An upper zone with vertical bands of framed zigzags or dotted lozenges, with a single “loom motif” placed opposite the handles. A middle zone with a horizontal double zigzag pattern.
A lower zone similar to the upper one, with framed vertical bands of dotted lozenges; above the base, a solid-filled triangle appears on the front. On the neck, a band with pendant groups of lines encircles the base.

The bottle was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1927 at Lapithos, in Tomb 406. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No.: L. 406:031) since 1931.
