Cypriot Black Polished Earthenware Bowl
Early Cypriot II to Middle Cypriot I-!!. Height 6.7cm. Diameter 10cm
A bowl with a round base and a hemispherical body. A flat, raised handle runs from the rim to the middle of the body. Made of hard grey clay with a lustrous black slip. Incised decoration includes encircling lines on the base, and concentric circles with horizontal rows of net pattern on the lower body. The middle of the body is decorated with hatched lozenges, while the upper body features horizontal wavy bands. Additional encircling lines and a wavy band run just below the rim.
The bowl was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1927 at Lapithos, on the floor of Chamber A, Tomb 315. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No.: L. 315A:011) since 1931.
