Cypriot Red Polished III Earthenware Ladle
Early Cypriot II (1950-1925/1900 BC). Height 16.2cm. Diameter 8.5cm
A ladle with a round base and a globular bowl-like body. It has a wide, concave neck and a sharp, spreading rim. An oval, raised handle runs from the rim to the shoulder, with vertical grooves along its upper part. Opposite the handle, there is a vertical knob on the shoulder.Made of hard light brick-coloured clay with a matte slip ranging from orange-red to dark grey.
The ladle was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1927 at Lapithos, on the floor of Chamber B, Tomb 314. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No.: L. 314B:070) since 1931.
