Early Cypriot II. (1950-1925/1900 BC). Height 14.8cm

A jug with a round base featuring a small concave cavity. The body is pear-shaped (piriform), with a short cylindrical neck and a wide funnel-shaped mouth. A raised handle runs from the mouth to the shoulder. Made of hard buff clay with a lustrous brownish-red slip. The body and shoulder are covered with incised decoration made up of concentric circles connected by bands of parallel lines arranged horizontally and diagonally. Hatchings are used as filling motifs. A band of horizontal lines encircles the shoulder, and another band runs around the neck.

The jug was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1927 at Lapithos, from the floor of Chamber B, Tomb 314. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No.: L. 314B:014) since 1931.
