Cypriot Black Lustrous (Wheelmade) Earthenware Tankard
Late Cypriot I-II. (1600-1200 BC). Height 15.5cm. Diameter 10.5cm, diameter base 6.5cm
An earthenware tankard with a biconical body featuring a carinated shoulder. It has a high, tapering neck with a band of encircling relief lines, and a slightly splaying rim. A flat handle runs from the rim to the shoulder. Made of hard grey clay with a matte grey slip. The surface is worn.
The tankard was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1930 at Enkomi, at level 52 in a chamber of Tomb 13. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No.: E. 013:098) since 1930.
