Cypriot White Painted II Earthenware Bowl

Cypro-Geometric I-II (1050-850 BC), Height 7.4cm. Diameter 10cm, diameter of base 4cm

A bowl with a low conical foot and a relatively deep body, finished with a sharp rim. Horizontal handles are attached to the sides of the body. Made from hard, light, brick-coloured clay and coated with a matte pinkish-buff slip. Decorated with matte black paint: the foot is painted, a band runs around the lower body, the rim is painted, the tops of the handles are painted, and an additional band circles the inside of the lower body.

The bowl was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1930 at Amathus at level 20 of a chamber in Tomb 19. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No. A. 019:027) since 1930.
