Cypriot Terracotta Figurine
Cypro-Archaic II. (600–475 BC), Height 13.9cm, width 6.2cm
A terracotta figurine made of red clay, with a hollow body and a flattened back. It has small, thick legs and a heavy, rounded belly. The arms are folded across the chest. The face features a pronounced nose and mouth, with relatively large ears. A thick wig falls down the sides of the head. Traces of red paint remain on the surface.
The figurine was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1930 at Amathus from level 36 of stratum 2 in a chamber of Tomb 9. It has been part of the Cyprus collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No.: A. 009:010) since 1930.
