A summary of the work conducted by the EUreka3D-XR project “EUreka3D-XR: exploring cultural heritage through 3D digitisation and XR experiences“, has been posted in the news of the common European data space for cultural heritage.
Over the past 18 months, the EU-funded EUreka3D-XR project has explored new ways to experience cultural heritage through 3D digitisation and extended reality (XR). Building on the success of EUreka3D, the project developed innovative tools and immersive experiences that allow visitors to interact with historical sites, artefacts and stories in new ways.
Pilot projects in Girona, Catalonia, Spain (the historical walls of Girona), Bibracte, France (the archaeological site at Bibracte) and Paphos, Cyprus (the enkleistra of St. Neophytos), demonstrate how augmented and virtual reality can recreate lost heritage, enrich archaeological visits and preserve cultural memory. The project also delivered five open-source tools and enhanced digital infrastructure to support cultural heritage institutions in creating engaging, transparent and accessible XR experiences.
