Cypriot Bichrome V Earthenware Bowl
Cypro-Archaic II (600-475 BC). Height 13cm. Diameter 21cm, diameter of base 6.1cm
A bowl with a hollow conical foot and a deep conical body, finished with an upright plain rim. Made of hard brick-coloured clay with a matte slip ranging from brick to pinkish buff, and decorated in matte red and black paint. The foot is decorated with black bands and lines, both inside and outside. The body is covered with alternating encircling bands of black lines and red bands. Just below the rim, a band of filled red triangles framed by black lines encircles the vessel.
The bowl was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1929 at Marion, from the floor of a chamber in Tomb 75. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No.: M. 075:013) since 1931.
