Cypriot Steatite Mortar

Late Cypriot III (1200-1050 BC). Height 2.9cm. Diameter 14.9cm, diameter of base 9.1cm

A mortar of dark grey steatite. It has a ring base with a low, shallow body and a horizontal rim. It was found with its pestle and is included in the same inventory record.

The pestle and mortar set was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1930 at Enkomi, on the floor of chamber A in Tomb 19. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No.: E. 019A:001) since 1930.
