On Monday, December 15, the President of the Limassol EOA paid, upon invitation, an official visit to the UNESCO Chair for Digital Cultural Heritage at the Cyprus University of Technology (Τεχνολογικό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου), where the newly established Digital Cultural Heritage Research Centre MNEMOSYNE operates.
The President was received by Dr. Marinos Ioannides, Director of the UNESCO Chair, together with his research team. During the visit, the mission and work of the Centre was presented, which is active in research, education, innovation and development in the field of digital cultural heritage. The work in detail focuses on digital documentation of cultural heritage, memory and identity, long-term monitoring and preservation, as well as the use and recycling of cultural data, such as 3D fabrication, leveraging on advanced 3D technologies and multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborations. With a mission to preserve and promote cultural narratives, the Centre aspires to become a global leader in the field of digital cultural heritage, bridging the academic community, research, innovation, policy making, stakeholders and public participation, contributing to a sustainable cultural future.
Dr Ioannides conducted a digital tour for the President of the EOA, presenting the projects that have been implemented to date, as well as the possibilities of the Centre in the field of digitising cultural heritage infrastructures in Cyprus and Europe.
During the meeting, potential areas of cooperation with the EOA Limassol were discussed, focusing on the possibility of joint actions to digitise cultural heritage in Cyprus, particularly in terms of historical and modern water and sewerage management systems in cooperation with the Commissioner of Mountain Communities.
At the same time, the Centre’s support for the World Digital Cultural Heritage Week, which will take place in May 2026 in Limassol was considered.
