Short Biography

Dr. Mia Trentin is a Research Associate at The Digital Heritage Research Laboratory (DHRLab) at the Cyprus University of Technology, currently working on the EU-funded Horizon Europe HERITALISE project since May 2025.

She is an archaeologist and historian specialising in digital humanities and a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London (SAL). She has an interdisciplinary background, including a BA in Archaeology, an MA in Cultural Heritage Studies, and a Phd in Social History, with a thesis on Medieval Graffiti along the northern Italian pilgrimage routes.

Her research focuses on digital heritage documentation, ontologies, and data structuring, with a specific interest in digital tools and technologies for documenting and studying written artefacts. She explores Medieval and Early Modern written and visual culture in all aspects, from traditional historical study and source editing to epigraphy. Her expertise lies in informal written communication – graffiti – as a visual expression and repository of sociocultural values and shared memories, which underpins our present concept of Cultural Heritage.
