We were delighted that the DHRlab Director, Marinos Ioannides, was able to present at the annual EGI conference, held in Lecce, Italy between the 30th of September and the 4th of October. Dr Ioannides presented “The oldest traditional Trawler of Cyprus on its way to the Data Cloud and Memory Twin” in the conference session Data Spaces: Enabling data sharing paradigms (1 October 2024) discussing the history, design, renovation and digitisation of this iconic Cypriot fishing trawler.
Initially digitised as part of the ERA Chair MNEMOSYNE project the initial digitisation results of this venerable vessel have provided an excellent case for EUreka3D to explore the challenges of reusability of digital Cultural Heritage assets and their preparation for open-access dissemination through Europeana and the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage initiative currently under development. The history of the Lambousa from its creation as a working fishing boat in 1955 to its restoration and relaunch as the island’s first floating museum this year can be found at the online line platform eLambousa.eu. Earlier this year the digital model of the Lambousa was delivered by the EUreka3D Data Hub to Europeana and became one of the two official 3D heritage objects selected to represent Cyprus in the pan-European TwinIT! initiative to enable member states to show case their cultural heritage to the world.
