A two-day workshop will take place on September 1st and 2nd in Fikardou village, Cyprus
The cooperation around cultural heritage between the neighbouring countries of Cyprus and Lebanon will be at the epicentre of a fascinating two-day event to occur on Friday, September 1st and Saturday, September 2nd, 2023, in Fikardou village, Cyprus.
The event is taking place within the context of the EU H2020 funded projects:
- TΕxTOUR (https://textour-project.eu/),
- IMPACTOUR (https://www.impactour.eu/), and
- ERA Chair MNEMOSYNE (https://erachair-dch.eu/),
which are pioneering Cultural Heritage in the subdomains of documentation, preservation, sustainable cultural tourism growth and setting the horizon for future plans and strategies in this area.
More specifically, the UNESCO Chair on Digital Cultural Heritage at the Cyprus University of Technology and the SME GAIA Heritage in Lebanon have partnered through TExTOUR Project for the creation of a Roadmap of cooperation around cultural heritage and tourism between Fikardou, Cyprus and Anfeh, Lebanon. Within the framework of the IMPACTOUR project, Fikardou is collaborating with other 26 Pilot Sites around Europe. These sites will provide a range of data on visitor flows, cultural assets, infrastructure provisions, economic and social indicators, helping to define, build and implement the new IMPACTOUR tools for destination management.
The coastal town of Anfeh in Lebanon and the inland village of Fikardou in Cyprus share important similarities as both are placed on the Tentative List of the UNESCO World Heritage and both present a harmonious relationship between the built and the natural environment, enabling a perspective of the cultural landscape.
The goal of the two-day key workshop event in Fikardou is to design and set up a roadmap for the development of long-term sustainable cooperation in the areas of Digital Heritage, Cultural Diplomacy and Cultural Tourism between the two regions, involving the local communities and their unique traditions, policymakers and stakeholders.
Participants at the event will also have the chance to be introduced to the concept of holistic digital documentation of cultural heritage, to explore the outstanding cultural value of the village of Fikardou as a cultural tourist destination and to provide hands-on experience and basic practical knowledge.
The workshop will take place at the old school of Fikardou.
