The occupied village of Ardana in the province of Famagusta is located at the southern foothills of the Pentadaktylos mountain range, at an altitude of 220 meters from the sea. The village borders Trikomos to the south, Kantara forest to the north, Agios Andronikos to the west and Agios Ilias and Gerani to the east. To the north of the village on one of the highest mountain peaks of Pentadaktylos is the Kantara fortress which was built in the 11th century.
There are various versions regarding the origin of the name of the village. However, the most prevalent version is that it comes from the word ardano which means watering can. Ardenum comes from the verb ardevo which means to water.
The population of the village in the twentieth century varied from 285 inhabitants in 1901 to 561 in 1946. In 1973, a year before the Turkish invasion, the population was 412 people.

To κατεχόμενο χωριό Άρδανα της επαρχίας Αμμοχώστου βρίσκεται στους νότιους πρόποδες της οροσειράς του Πενταδακτύλου, σ’ ένα υψόμετρο 220 μέτρα από την θάλασσα. Το χωριό συνορεύει με το Τρίκωμο στον νότο, με το δάσος της Καντάρας στον βορρά, τον Άγιο Ανδρόνικο στα δυτικά και τον Άγιο Ηλία και το Γεράνι στα Ανατολικά. Στα βόρεια του χωριού σε μία από τις πιο ψηλές βουνοκορφές του Πενταδάκτυλου βρίσκεται το φρούριο της Καντάρας το οποίο κτίστηκε τον 11ο αιώνα.
Υπάρχουν διάφορες εκδοχές όσον αφορά την προέλευση της ονομασίας του χωριού. Επικρατέστερη όμως είναι η εκδοχή ότι προέρχεται από την λέξη αρδάνιο που σημαίνει ποτίστρα. Το αρδάνιο προέρχεται από το ρήμα αρδεύω που σημαίνει ποτίζω.
Ο πληθυσμός του χωριού τον εικοστό αιώνα κυμαινόταν από 285 κατοίκους το 1901 μέχρι 561 το 1946. Το 1973, ένα χρόνο πριν την τουρκική εισβολή, πληθυσμός ήταν 412 άτομα.
