We are seeking a passionate and innovative Digital Archaeologist and/or Digital Historian to join our multidisciplinary team in advancing cultural heritage research and digital preservation. Key Responsibilities:
- Utilise and develop methodologies for Cypriot cultural heritage documentation.

- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary owners and stakeholders such as historians, archaeologists, and technologists to enhance digital storytelling and heritage visualisation.

Position Overview:
An HBIM-Heritage Building Information Modelling specialist, able to realise, draft and develop BIM projects, and their management, in line with the standards and institutionalised procedures, through the acute use of updated software and technological devices.
If you are interested in HBIM (Heritage Building Information Modelling) and want to learn more about this information modelling methodology for historic and heritage buildings, you are in the right place. We are looking for an enthusiastic architect, civil engineer or surveyor with strong design skills and a proven track record of coordinating and implementing design processes for small, medium and big projects. We aim at the use of BIM in the area of Cultural Heritage: 3D Reconstruction, Recovery and Restoration, Digital Fabrication, Urban and Architectural Design. The individual designer will be able to update the design methodology in line with the most recent advice of European directives.
The Role and Responsibilities:
We are seeking a BIM experienced professional member of the ETEK/CY or similar accredited EU Chamber of Engineers, with at least five years of experience running projects with an architectural, civil engineering and surveying background. Complementing our expanding team of digital specialists, our ideal appointee will have exceptional BIM / digital skills and an in-depth understanding of ancient building techniques and able to apply this knowledge to digital reconstruction of heritage sites and monuments.
You will be based at headquarters of the UNESCO Chair on Digital Heritage at the Cyprus University of Technology in Limassol, but you will be required to travel as and when required.
You will work alongside the Director of the UNESCO Chair on DCH, and the Chair’s manager and Technology Director assisting them with:
- The production and implementation of the UNESCO Chair’s templates, standards, and procedures
- Supporting the strategic direction and development of BIM
- The implementation of supporting software for BIM and their extension to HBIM
- The implementation of REVIT platforms across the Chair
- Support of other related CAD and BIM applications, including freeform surface software such as RHINO
- The production, review and approval of BIM Execution Plans to ensure compliance with Employers Information Requirements and relevant British and international standards
- Providing REVIT and associated training and support for other new staff
- Defining and conducting REVIT, and associated software, workflow seminars
You will also:
- Help to resolve hardware, update software and if its needed pre-process/filter scan data from monuments’/artefacts/sites.
- Raise awareness and the profile of BIM and within all areas of the UNESCO Chair including Research and Innovation, Development, Work Winning / Bidding, Design, Delivery, etc.
- Identify new, relevant, BIM Technologies and introduce across the UNESCO Chair on DCH where appropriate
- Define and implement quality control processes for project-related internal workflows
- Liaise with industry bodies, Cultural Heritage stakeholders / Digital conservation environments to help maintain the UNESCO Chairs and the University’s position as a leader in the field of Digital Cultural Heritage
- Liaise with Cultural Heritage stakeholders, other specialists in our domain and consultants in the preparation of project BIM standards and execution plans
- Liaise with clients, consultants and extended supply chain to identify and accommodate requirements & capabilities to coordinate and optimise workflows
- Advise on best practice and project strategy to ensure the correct BIM outcome is achieved
- Oversee quality control of internal workflows and work sharing with external parties and ensure compliance with the Cyprus University of Technology employer’s information requirements
- Liaise with 3rd-party consultants in the development of supporting BIM software and processes
- Promote sustainability strategies in all of our activities at the UNESCO Chair and full sustainability integration in the design process
- Be actively involved in Dissemination and Outreach activities in Cyprus and abroad (International conferences and by organisations like UNESCO, ICOMOS, European Commission, within in Europe and the rest of the world).
- Be confident in working both independently and in taking a leadership role when necessary,.
Required Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of the REVIT and/or ArchiCAD software essential in all scales of LOD (100-500)
- Advanced knowledge of associated software / platforms for the construction/ reconstruction of geometric primitives, including polygon meshes, Bézier curves, NURBS surfaces – freeform surface packages such as Blender, Rhino3D or SolidWorks.
- Advanced knowledge of all BIM workflows, standards and best practice
- Good working knowledge of Photoshop
- Good working knowledge of the BS and ISO 19650 suite of BIM documents
- Understanding of the Construction Industry Council (CIC) BIM Protocol
- A team player with excellent written and spoken English
- Knowledge of visualisation technologies and their place in the BIM workflow
- Good working knowledge of the state of the art in IT for Architects and the Architectural process.
- Experience in 3D object reconstruction from images (photogrammetry) or laser scanners is highly valued and considered an advantage (experience with software packages like AgiSoft, Metashape, RealityCapture, ReCapPro, etc.)

O Δήμος Λεμεσού στο πλαίσιο συνεργασίας με το Τεχνολογικό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου (ΤΕΠΑΚ) και το Πατριαρχείο Αλεξανδρείας και πάσης Αφρικής χρηματοδοτεί επτά (7) υποτροφίες για διδακτορική διατριβή στον Τομέα της Ψηφιακής Πολιτιστικής Κληρονομιάς σε συνεργασία με την αντίστοιχη Έδρα της ΟΥΝΕΣΚΟ στο συγκεκριμένο τομέα στο ΤΕΠΑΚ.
Η διάρκεια της υποτροφίας θα είναι για τρία (3) χρόνια και θα ξεκινήσει το φθινοπωρινό ακαδημαϊκό εξάμηνο του τρέχοντος έτους.

ΠΕΡΙΓΡΑΦΗ ΥΠΟΧΡΕΩΣΕΩΝ

- Εκπαίδευση για χρήση εξοπλισμού ψηφιακής αποτύπωσης διαφόρων αντικειμένων (κείμενο, φωτογραφία, φιλμ, οπτικοακουστικό υλικό, 2Δ/3Δ, κτλ.),
- Εφαρμογή και χρήση μεθοδολογίων σάρωσης/ψηφιοποίησης,
- Επεξεργασία και ανάλυση δεδομένων ψηφιακής αποτύπωσης,
- Περιγραφή παραδεδομένων, μεταδεδομένων και αρχειοθέτηση όλου του ψηφιοποιημένου υλικού στο αποθετήριο της Έδρα της ΟΥΝΕΣΚΟ στο ΤΕΠΑΚ,
- Ιστορική τεκμηρίωση, ποιοτικός έλεγχος και επιστημονική επιβεβαίωση όλων των πληροφοριών από σχετική λεπτομερή έρευνα στο Πατριαρχείο και στο εξωτερικό (Κύπριους και Έλληνες απόδημους),
- Ανάπτυξη εξειδικευμένου συστήματος γεωγραφικών πληροφοριών (GIS) του Πατριαρχείου για την διαχείριση, ανάλυση, μοντελοποίηση και παρουσίαση των συλλεχθέντων πληροφοριών και δεδομένων,
- Προβολή όλου του υλικού στην Europeana.
ΠΕΡΙΓΡΑΦΗ ΕΡΓΟΥ
Οι διδακτορικές έρευνες στοχεύουν στην ανάπτυξη μιας ολοκληρωμένης μεθοδολογίας για τη συλλογή, ανάλυση και ψηφιοποίηση της πολιτιστικής, ιστορικής και κοινωνικής μνήμης του Πατριαρχείου. Η μεθοδολογία θα καλύπτει τη συλλογή διαφόρων μορφών μνήμης, συμπεριλαμβανομένων, αλλά όχι περιοριστικά, γραπτών τεκμηρίων, εικόνων, αφηγήσεων, τρισδιάστατων μοντέλων και οπτικοακουστικού υλικού.
Οι διατριβές θα βασιστούν σε πρωτογενείς πηγές από το πλούσιο Αρχείο, Βιβλιοθήκη, Μουσείο του Πατριαρχείου, πανεπιστημιακές και ιδιωτικες βιβλιοθήκες στην Ελλάδα, Κύπρο και Αίγυπτο, την Βιβλιοθήκη Αλεξάνδρειας, τα Κρατικά Αρχεία Ελλάδος, το Κρατικό Αρχείο Κύπρου, την Κυπριακή Βιβλιοθήκη το Ευρωπαϊκό Αρχείο, το Γραφείο Τύπου και Πληροφοριών της Κυπριακής Κυβέρνησης, τους κρατικούς και ιδιωτικούς σταθμούς ραδιοφώνου και τηλεόρασης στη Κύπρο και Ελλάδα, καθώς επίσης από διάφορους ιδιώτες και οργανισμούς αποδήμων της Κύπρου και Ελλάδος.
Ο δεύτερος βασικός στόχος της Έρευνας είναι ο σχεδιασμός και η υλοποίηση ενός πρωτοτύπου συστήματος που θα λειτουργεί ως αποθετήριο για την αρχειοθέτηση, διάδοση, αξιοποίηση και επαναχρησιμοποίηση του ψηφιοποιημένου περιεχομένου. Το πρωτότυπο θα παρέχει την υποδομή για τη μακροχρόνια διατήρηση και προσβασιμότητα των δεδομένων, διασφαλίζοντας ότι η ψηφιοποιημένη μνήμη του Πατριαρχείου και απόδημου Ελληνισμού μπορεί να αξιοποιηθεί από την παγκόσμια πολυεπιστημονική κοινότητα χρηστών, όπως ιστορικούς, αρχαιολόγους ερευνητές, εκπαιδευτικούς, φοιτητές/μαθητές και το ευρύ κοινό.
Ο τρίτος στόχος είναι η ενσωμάτωση όλου του περιεχομένου του Αποθετηρίου στη Ψηφιακή Βιβλιοθήκη Ευρωπαϊκής Πολιτιστικής Κληρονομιάς, Europeana – EU Europeana Digital Library on Cultural Heritage.
