Cypriot Bichrome II Earthenware Bowl
Cypro-Geometric I-II (1050-850 BC), Height 7.4cm. Diameter 26cm, diameter of base 8.3cm
A ring base bowl with a wide, fairly shallow body and a plain rim. Round horizontal handles are set at the rim. Made from hard buff clay with a matte buff slip, and decorated in matte dark red and dark grey paint. On the exterior, a grey spiral appears on the base. The lower body is encircled by a red band bordered with grey lines, while two parallel grey lines run around the upper body. The rim and handles are painted grey. The interior has two parallel lines circling the middle of the body, and a grey spiral decorates the bottom.
The bowl was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1930 at Amathus at level 15 of a chamber in Tomb 19. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No. A. 019:012) since 1930.
