Cypriot Bichrome II Earthenware Bowl
Cypro-Geometric I-II (1050-850 BC), Height 7.3cm. Diameter of rim 30cm, diameter of base 14cm
A circular bowl with a ring base with a wide, conical body with Round horizontal handles attached just below the inturned rim. Made of hard buff clay with a matte buff slip, and decorated in matte red and dark grey paint. On the exterior, the bottom is decorated with red and grey concentric circles and grey transverse strokes on the base. Grey lines and bands, together with a red band, encircle the lower body. Additional grey bands circle the middle of the body, and a grey band runs around the rim. The handles are painted grey. The interior has grey bands encircling the middle of the body, and grey concentric circles decorating the bottom.
The bowl was excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1930 at Amathus at level 20 of a chamber in Tomb 19. It has been part of the collection of the Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Sweden (Inv. No. A. 019:009) since 1930.
